Sketchbook from the Queen of the Waves

This battered book was found among the webbings in the Queen of the Waves. The book is a sketch book, mostly pencil sketches and charcoal, with a few watercolours mixed in. The sketches depict a voyage of sorts, with cityscapes and scenes in various ports labelled, Valas, Reime, Mevierre, Ul-lok and so on. A few head-shots are included, the most frequent people portrayed are a proud looking elven maiden with a small scar on her left eyebrow enhancing her otherwise fine features, a stoic and tired human man with a strong jaw and a symbol of a dolphin about his neck, and a tidily bearded smiling half-elf with a parrot. All sketches are marked in the bottom left-hand corner with ‘II’. Towards the middle of the book is an image of a ship, the Queen, propped up on a rocky shore, undergoing repairs, with the facing page showing a rather fanciful image of the ships figurehead battered by curling waves. Soon after, sketches of jungle-scapes and various flora become horrid dark, frantic drawing of twisting shadows, glimpses of bestial and insectoid creatures in darkness, and fearful men with horrific injuries.
