Striders of the Reach
Lischer lies nestled in the rolling, scrub covered hills where the Messen River meets the sea, forming a lagoon-like natural harbour. The unplanned streets are a mixture of timber buildings with steep tiled roofs, sod-dwellings and hide huts and tents, the more temporary constructions more common at the edges of the city, where comings and goings of their Seigun inhabitants cause an ever changing twist of streets and alleys. The city sprawls, and the muddy, mostly unpaved streets boast few buildings that rise above a second story.
Lischer is the principal sea port of Lander, found at a natural harbour at the mouth of the Messen river. The river is shallow, and ships have to unload goods here to be taken upriver by barge to Ermarch. Lischer’s principal business lies in shipping, and most trade of Lander passes through here. Lischer is ruled by Chieftain Hurthen, of the Fenden tribe, whose totem animal is the orca, and who control the majority of whaling in the region. Hurthen has the local church of Machber control the flow of trade in and out of the city, and it is these priests who act as harbourmasters, tariff controllers and taxmen.
